Does it involve money? what are other ways of increasing web traffic to my site?

This is a very common question and one without a simple answer as such sadly.

You will most likely be discovered by Google organically to begin with. Using http://www.google.com.au/addurl/ will ensure this is done as soon as possible.

Google uses a mass of algorithms and techniques to determine what keywords you will be found under, how successfully you will rank against others with the same keywords and even what country you will list higher under (depending on your site’s location). They take in to consideration things like how fast is your site to load, keywords in your domain, keywords in your content and how many other sites link to yours.

Let’s Say, if you want to be listed will for the words "Microsoft Windows", then you will be competing not only with the large budget and web footprint of Microsoft, but many millions of other sites. In this case, you will experience great difficulty competing and ranking well as the competitin is fierce.

However, if you wish to be listed under "Microsoft Windows software sales texas", you will find there is less competition due to the niche collection of keywords. The next step is making sure those keywords are on your site for Google to know to list you under these.

You can pay for Google Adwords which is the "Sponsored Links" you see in the side in searches. This is a whole new question it itself though

Do a google search for "Basic SEO techniques" and ready a number of sites to get a good general understanding.

I built a new web site some time ago. And installed Google Analytics. I see I do not get many visitors to my web site. I`ve read a bunch of writing articles and doing stuff, but would like to focus on activities that can really increase my traffic.

Are there any free ways to get more web site traffic? I can work on it a few hours per day. Please suggest what works for you, and how many visitors I should expect.

Do not rely only on search engine traffic. You need to drive traffic to your site. Now there are many, many ways to do this.

First Article Marketing. Many people do not utilize this, and it is extra and it is free. Write some articles on niche topics and have a link back to your site in resource box.

If you become very good at writing, find out which high traffic blogs will accept your content. This way, you can get lots of traffic faster and the best of all, in most cases it will not cost you much.

You can also do blog commenting and drive traffic that way.

Not sure if you heard of Massive Traffic Report but you can learn about 14 strategies that are free, or very cheap and drive LOT’s of traffic that way!

Put the name of your website on a shirt and wear it around. Or make flyers and put them places like grocery stores or schools

I opened my website 2 1/2 months ago… I’ve started a google adwords campaign, site map, and a blog even have participated in link swaping. My site traffic has been increasing but no sales? is this normal? what should I be doing differently?

2 things - you may want some people to review your site and see if it is providing the information and services in a clear and concise manner. Websites have to be catchy. Send the site address to friends or family to review. Does it show up at the top of the lists when searched for on the net?

A web based business should generate sales quickly.

I have a web site that I feel has a lot to offer people looking for jobs or employees. I have tried several ways to promote this site, but the bulk of the services I used seem to be of marginal (at best) value. There has been no real increase in traffic over the past year. Any Ideas? A good way is to promote it at the Universities so college kids can go on there and then let companies know that a bunch of kids from such-n-such college are listed here… Then the college kids will remember the site when they get older, and so will employers… Give deals to those who will want to list for college kids….

I am not even going to touch the idea of someone that is running a website that teaches others how to improve their site ranking etc coming here to ask this particular question.

I do have one piece of advice though, you may want to fix all the broken links and misspellings before you start trying to drive people to your site. No sense getting people to your site if it does not work or look professional.
