Lots of ways to get some listings on SERPs that’ll move you quickly to page one of Google. The more of this kind of off-site marketing you do, the better the results.
1. Posting to blogs that are topically related to your site.
2. Posting articles on syndication sites.
3. Create creds on Yahoo answers and Linkedin answers.
4. Create as many sign posts pointing to your site as possible.
Even a response to a blog post can earn you a link.

In my opinion, there is no best way. You will need to tackle this from a variety of different angles.
Take a step back. Is your website up to par? Are you ready to have visitors? Are you sure they will click or buy or sign up? It doesn’t have to be perfect before you start to drive traffic but don’t rush into it if your site is not ready.
Content. If you provide relevant, high quality content for your site that is specific to that product or service, you are on your way.
Once your site is looking good, content wise, design wise and navigation wise, you might be ready to do some Traffic Driving.
Free traffic is often Low Quality Traffic. I once signed up for 1000 visitors to my site for $5. Nobody bought anything and the average time spent on my site was 20 seconds. Most of them were from China.
You need to bring BUYERS to your site. Not just traffic.
Google Adwords does that. But it’s not free.
Getting free organic traffic from google is free but usually takes time and expertise.
My personal favourite way to drive traffic to your website is Ezine Marketing. This might cost you time if you go the free way, but it works.
HOW?
1) Find an ezine that has a readership of people who would be interested in your offer. (read that again. it’s important)
2) Once you find an ezine that MATCHES you can place an ad (costs money) or offer an article (usually free) that also shows your link to your site.
3) The people who click are already interested in your offer and the traffic is now more likely to be BUYER traffic rather than PASSING traffic.
I have tried lots of free stuff with some success. It’s a good way to start but don’t rely on it forever.

Remember: There are heaps of techniques out there. There are some free ones too. Take ONE technique at a time. Try to get it on autopilot or if it is just a sign up or a "click and set" type thing, then do it and move on.
There are thousands of ezines out there with readerships that are already interested and subscribed to a publication that matches what you sell.
If you find the ezines that match what you offer, you can advertise surprisingly cheaply there and for free sometimes and drive not only traffic but actual buyers to your site if you know what you are doing.
